We’re always pleased to hear people like our portfolio, and one of our clients recently talked about how refreshing it was to see a variety of styles of kitchens on our Houzz page. And it’s true, instead of referring back to old projects for inspiration and modifying for a new space, we prefer to take a Bespoke approach and tailor to our client’s personality and needs of each unique kitchen.
A trend on the rise in kitchen design for 2017 is two-toned kitchens. According to the newly released National Kitchen & Bath Association Design Trend report, mixing cabinet colors is becoming more prevalent in design styles in the United States.
“Two-toned kitchens are also on the rise along with mixed materials and metals, both in surfaces and as accents,” said NKBA K+B Insider Alberto Villalobos.
A Contemporary kitchen with a rustic backdrop, one of our St. Charles, Illinois, projects is a nice example of how to incorporate the use of this popular design trend.
The homeowner’s request was well-defined: create a progressive layout, ideal for meal prep and socializing, by way of a design that paralleled the architecture of the home and emphasized its scenic riverside location.
Let’s talk aesthetics.
After planning for optimal function, our team focused on the look of the kitchen and ensured the chosen colors and textures fit with the home’s pristine natural setting on the Fox River in Kane County. The upper cabinets, created by Quality Custom Cabinetry, are white with frosted glass doors that create a gentle flow almost mirroring the framework and overall feel of the reflection of the river just beyond windows. The decision to use a soft colored cabinet has an added advantage in giving the eyes a rest after experiencing the strong focal point of the dark lower cabinetry and waterfall island.
The appliances were organized to maximize efficiency, integrated into the design ensuring a tidy fit and finish.
The end result is a kitchen reborn as an inviting, functional space with an exceptional backdrop for everyday cooking and socializing. This kitchen makes even early-morning introspection with a cup of coffee and a great view of the river a beautiful daily ritual.
Project specs: Cabinets by Quality Custom Cabinetry, Sub-Zero integrated refrigerator, Wolf cooktop, hood and ovens. Waterfall Countertop in walnut by Grothouse.
